Speech Therapy With Texas Medicaid and CHIP

Oasis Speech is enrolled with Texas Medicaid and in network with two Medicaid health plans. Most Texas children with Medicaid or CHIP are in a health plan, and which plans serve you depends on your county. This page shows where we can see your child using Medicaid or CHIP.

Step 1: Find Your Health Plan Name

Look at your child's member ID card. The health plan's name is printed on the front. You can also find it in the Your Texas Benefits app.

Step 2: Match Your Plan and Area

If your county or plan isn't in the table, we can't bill your plan right now. If your child has traditional Texas Medicaid rather than a health plan, call us and we'll check.

What Each Program Is

  • STAR: Medicaid for most children, pregnant women and families

  • STAR Kids: Medicaid for children and young adults 20 and younger who have disabilities

  • CHIP: coverage for children in families that earn too much for Medicaid but can't afford private insurance. CHIP may have small copays.

  • STAR+PLUS: Medicaid for adults with disabilities and adults 65 and older

Step 3: Get a Doctor's Order

Texas Medicaid requires an order from your child's doctor for speech therapy. The evaluation needs a signed order, and ongoing therapy needs prior authorization from your plan. Here's how it works with us:

  1. Ask your child's doctor for a speech therapy evaluation and treatment order, or give us the doctor's name and fax number and we'll request it.

  2. Sherry evaluates by video.

  3. We send the prior authorization request to your plan with the doctor's signed form.

  4. Once it's approved, weekly sessions begin. Authorizations are renewed with progress reports, and we handle that too.

Telehealth Speech Therapy Is Covered

Texas Medicaid covers speech evaluations and therapy by live video. Phone-only sessions aren't covered, so you'll need a phone, tablet or computer with a working camera and a steady internet connection.
