Speech Therapy in Orlando, FL
Oasis Speech offers live speech therapy by video for Orlando children and adults, from Winter Park and College Park to Winter Garden and Windermere. Sessions are one-on-one with Sherry Owais, M.A., CCC-SLP, a speech-language pathologist licensed in Florida, with a special focus on autism.
Autism and Communication: What Therapy Works On
Autistic children communicate in many ways, and therapy starts with how your child communicates now. Sherry builds goals around what matters at home, such as:
Asking for what they want or need, and saying "no" or "help" in a way others understand
Taking turns in play and short back-and-forth conversations
Following routines and directions with visual supports
Sharing interests and connecting with family and friends
Sessions follow your child's interests. If your child loves trains, the trains come to therapy.
Parents Are Part of Every Session
Video therapy happens at home, where daily routines happen. Sherry coaches you during the session, so you can use the same strategies at breakfast, bath time and in the car.
Free Autism Support From UCF CARD
The UCF Center for Autism and Related Disabilities offers free consultation, training, and resource referrals to Central Florida families. It doesn't provide therapy, but it's a strong resource alongside it, especially for school and home routines.
Using Step Up For Students
Autism is one of the qualifying diagnoses for Florida's Unique Abilities scholarship, and many Orlando families use it for therapy. See our Step Up For Students guide.
Orange County Public Schools
Most Orlando children attend Orange County Public Schools (OCPS). Autistic students often qualify for speech and language services through an IEP. To ask for an evaluation, write to your child's school and the OCPS ESE office. Our Florida school evaluation guide has a sample letter and the deadlines.
