Speech Therapy in Sugar Land, TX

Lisp, tricky R sound or speech that's hard to understand? Oasis Speech offers online articulation therapy for kids, teens and adults in Sugar Land, Missouri City, Stafford and Richmond, with Sherry Owais, M.A., CCC-SLP.

When Speech Sound Errors Need Attention

By about age 4, most children can be understood by adults who don't know them. A few sounds take longer, especially R, L, S, TH, SH and CH, and those often settle in early elementary school.

It's worth a speech evaluation if:

  • People outside the family often can't understand your child after age 4

  • Your child leaves off the beginnings or ends of words

  • A lisp or a distorted R sound continues past the first years of elementary school

  • Your child gets frustrated or stops talking when they aren't understood

What Online Articulation Therapy Looks Like

Sessions use short games and picture activities on a shared screen. Your child can click and move pieces during the session, which keeps younger kids engaged. Sherry shows exactly where the tongue and lips go, and you'll get a few minutes of practice to do at home between sessions. Home practice is what makes new sounds stick.

Fort Bend ISD and School Speech Services

Most Sugar Land children attend Fort Bend ISD, while Stafford has its own district, Stafford Municipal School District. If your child qualifies for speech therapy at school, the ARD committee writes those services into an IEP.

Schools look at whether a speech problem affects your child's education, so a mild sound error or lisp may not qualify for school services. Private articulation therapy is an option whether or not your child qualifies at school.
