Speech Therapy in McAllen & the Rio Grande Valley

Bilingual Kids: Spanish, English and Speech Delays
In many Valley homes, children hear Spanish and English every day. Learning two languages does not cause a speech or language delay. Bilingual children reach milestones on about the same timeline as children learning one language, even if they know some words only in Spanish and others only in English. Mixing both languages in one sentence is normal.
A true language delay shows up in both languages. When you fill out our form, tell us what you notice in Spanish and in English. That helps Sherry see the whole picture.
Sherry provides therapy in English. If your child speaks mostly Spanish, let us know on the form so we can talk honestly about whether we're the right fit.
Medicaid Speech Therapy in the Rio Grande Valley
The Hidalgo Medicaid service area includes Hidalgo, Cameron, Starr, Willacy, Webb, Zapata, Jim Hogg, Duval, Maverick and McMullen counties. Here, we're in network with UnitedHealthcare Community Plan for:
STAR: Medicaid for most children and families
STAR Kids: for children and young adults 20 and younger with disabilities
STAR+PLUS: for adults with disabilities and adults 65 and older
We aren't in network with a CHIP plan in the Valley right now. If your card shows a different Medicaid health plan, we can't bill that plan either. We also take BCBS of Texas, Aetna, Curative, Medicare, traditional Texas Medicaid and self-pay.
Medicaid needs an order from your child's doctor before therapy. Ask your pediatrician for a speech therapy referral, and we'll take care of the prior authorization.
McAllen ISD and Valley School Districts
McAllen children attend McAllen ISD or Sharyland ISD. Nearby, families are in PSJA ISD, Edinburg CISD, Mission CISD and La Joya ISD. Federal law requires schools to test children in their native language when it's feasible, so ask for a Spanish or bilingual evaluation if Spanish is your child's stronger language.
Early Intervention for Babies and Toddlers in Hidalgo County
Texas HHS lists two Early Childhood Intervention programs for Hidalgo County: Easter Seals Rio Grande Valley ECI and the Region One ECI Program. Use the HHS ECI Program Search to find the one that serves your ZIP code.
